Shared_Studios uses Devio to Help Build Connections across the Globe

Shared_Studios, founded in Brooklyn and operating Portal installations around the world, set out to create real-time conversations between people in different locations that felt as natural and engaging as an in-person meeting. The challenge was to deliver clear, low-latency audio and video in highly varied spaces, from shipping containers and refugee camps to cultural centers, while keeping the technology unobtrusive and supporting multilingual conversations. Biamp’s Devio was selected to help meet these goals.

Biamp implemented Devio CR-1 and DTM-1 microphone solutions with Acoustic Echo Cancellation, Automatic Gain Control, and Beamtracking microphones to provide natural, high-quality audio in each Portal. The system was concealed within the spaces to preserve the immersive experience, while remaining flexible enough for repeat deployments across multiple form factors. The result was a scalable and reliable audio platform that helped Shared_Studios create meaningful connections worldwide; the case study notes that 31 permanent Portal sites were operating after three years.
