Reducing Distractions and Protecting Speech Privacy in a Large and Busy Modern Office

Mercy Health, the largest health system in Ohio, needed to make its new 368,000-square-foot headquarters more open and collaborative without increasing speech noise and distractions. To address concerns about reduced walls, fewer private offices, and lower partitions, the company evaluated a sound masking solution from Biamp’s Cambridge Sound Management division.

Biamp, through Cambridge Sound Management, implemented the Qt® 600 Sound Masking System in a pilot area and then rolled it out across the new headquarters, with multiple zones to support louder coverage in the call center. The result was a successful transition to open office work: employees reported fewer conversational distractions, greater willingness to use open workspaces instead of private offices, and improved speech privacy while preserving the office’s architectural design vision.
