A Biamp Case Study
Notre Dame Stadium, home of the University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish, needed a new sound system that could handle both emergency announcements and an improved game-day experience. The challenge was twofold: the lower concourse’s concrete structure caused echoes and poor intelligibility, while the upper concourse was fully exposed to the weather, requiring durable, weather-resistant loudspeakers. Biamp was involved in the overall AV solution alongside system design and installation partners, with the venue using Community loudspeakers, Soundweb London processing, and a Soundcraft Vi1 console.
The solution delivered a distributed, multi-zone system with 136 Community R.5 loudspeakers and 91 R.25 loudspeakers powered by Crown amplification and managed through Soundweb London and a Soundcraft Vi1 console. Biamp’s role in the broader AV environment helped support remote monitoring and control, while the new system provided clear coverage in difficult acoustic areas and stood up to harsh outdoor conditions. The system performed well during severe thunderstorms at the stadium’s first 2011 home game, supporting critical safety announcements and improving the fan experience by bringing play-by-play audio to the concourses.
