Georgia Southern University cuts stadium reflections by 6 dB with Biamp

Georgia Southern University faced a significant challenge with the sound system at its 25,000-seat outdoor football stadium. The existing system could not overcome crowd noise, resulting in poor speech intelligibility and distorted audio during announcements. To address this, the university worked with Biamp to implement a solution using Community LVH-900 beamforming loudspeakers and VenuePolar software.

The Biamp team, led by Principal Engineer Charlie Hughes, used software-based optimization to electronically steer sound and fine-tune coverage patterns without any physical re-aiming of the installed loudspeakers. This process eliminated a major reflection issue, reducing it by up to 9 dB and dramatically improving intelligibility. The solution optimized SPL coverage across all seating areas and saved the university tens of thousands of dollars and weeks of time that would have been required for a hardware-based fix.
