Aquent improves speech privacy in a 12,000-square-foot open office with Biamp

Aquent, a Boston-based global marketing firm, faced a challenge when designing its new 12,000 square foot open-plan headquarters. The company wanted to maintain a modern, collaborative environment with no cubicles or assigned seating, but this design led to excessive noise distractions and a lack of speech privacy. To address this, Aquent turned to Biamp and its Qt 600 Sound Masking System.

Biamp's solution involved installing nearly invisible Qt Emitters throughout the open ceiling, connected to a central control module. This system emitted a uniform, unobtrusive background sound that covered up distracting conversations. The result was a workspace that successfully balanced collaboration and focus; employees could easily hear nearby colleagues while conversations beyond 15 feet faded into the background. The project was so successful that Aquent has since installed the same Biamp technology in its Los Angeles office and plans to include it in future renovations.
