Off shore Call Center Locks Down Thousands of Linux Desktops

A leading global financial services firm operating an offshore call center in India ran more than 5,000 SUSE Linux desktops and struggled to manage users and security across multiple NIS domains and scattered local /etc/passwd and group files. High turnover made provisioning and deprovisioning manual and error-prone, and the IT team lacked a central way to enforce single usernames, strong passwords, screensaver locking and other standard security policies.

The company deployed BeyondTrust PowerBroker Identity Services (AD Bridge) on all call-center machines, joining the Linux desktops to Active Directory and consolidating identity stores. This enabled AD-based policy enforcement and centralized provisioning, significantly reducing administrative effort and costs while ensuring uniform security controls and fast, consistent user management.
