Case Study: DSM achieves enterprise-wide least-privilege security and improved productivity with BeyondTrust PowerBroker for Desktops

A BeyondTrust Case Study

Preview of the DSM Case Study

DSM Improves Security Across the Enterprise

DSM, a global life‑sciences company with €8 billion in annual sales and 18,000 employees, faced a major desktop migration from Windows NT4 to Windows XP and set a strict security goal: enforce Least Privilege by removing local administrator rights from all users. The challenge was to tighten security without disrupting productivity, as many business applications and traveling laptop users still needed the ability to run privileged software and adjust local settings.

DSM deployed BeyondTrust PowerBroker for Desktops enterprise‑wide, allowing standard users to run required applications, self‑install approved software and ActiveX controls, and manage authorized settings (printers, IP/wireless, time zones) on laptops—all without local admin rights. The result was a secure, least‑privilege desktop environment for all 18,000 users, fewer help‑desk calls, reduced malware exposure and improved end‑user and administrator productivity.
