How Google built a thriving community

Google Developer Group (GDG) runs DevFest, a long‑running series of community‑led developer events that needed to pivot quickly when the global pandemic made in‑person gatherings impossible. To keep local chapters engaged and preserve DevFest’s grassroots, multilingual speaker lineup, GDG partnered with Bevy and adopted the Bevy Virtual Conference and Community platform to host the festival online.

Bevy powered a thriving virtual DevFest that delivered 389 events over 3 days with 350 GDG chapters participating, from large sessions of 2,000+ attendees to very localized meetups under 50. Bevy’s platform gave organizers flexible tools to feature speakers and technical content, and its support averaged a 58‑second response time with resolutions under 10 minutes, enabling GDG to sustain community engagement and measurable event scale.
