Lithium Technologies, a San Francisco–based software company with 250–500 employees that provides social customer experience management, struggled with a traditional top-down MBO performance process that left employees unclear about company priorities and how their work aligned to them. Individuals wanted more connection to peers and visibility into others’ work, while leaders needed a platform that gave a broader organizational view and flexibility for different teams.
