Travelodge and BetterUp co-create a best-in-class talent strategy

Travelodge, one of the UK’s largest hotel brands, needed to rethink its talent strategy after major industry disruption from Brexit, the pandemic, and changing work patterns. The hospitality company wanted to improve resilience, retain and develop a stable core team, reduce people costs, and create a more inclusive way to attract and grow talent. BetterUp supported Travelodge with 1:1 Dedicated Coaching and Specialty Coaching, alongside its IdentifyAI® and Whole Person™ Model Assessment.

BetterUp helped Travelodge co-create a new talent development model called Grow Your Career, using data to select the right leaders for coaching and build a shared, future-focused language around credibility, capability, and career drive. The approach saved an estimated 3 months in program selection and engagement, reduced HR costs by about £50K, and improved inclusivity by reducing unconscious bias in participant selection. Travelodge also reported stronger agility, better well-being conversations, and increased adoption in later coaching waves.
