John Muir Health, a leading healthcare organization in the San Francisco Bay Area, was facing severe employee burnout, compassion fatigue, and high turnover during the pandemic. These challenges were especially acute among nursing teams and were affecting employee well-being, performance, and patient satisfaction. BetterUp helped the health system support staff at scale with BetterUp Care™ and BetterUp Lead coaching.

With BetterUp, John Muir Health rolled out BetterUp Care™ to all 6,500 employees and used BetterUp Lead to develop high-performing and emerging leaders. The results included a 62% lower voluntary attrition rate for BetterUp Lead participants, a 46% lower voluntary attrition rate for BetterUp Care™ participants, 16% higher performance scores for coached leaders, 1.48x more promotions, and a 13x overall ROI based on performance and retention outcomes.
