Haven House, a shelter and family-support organization in East Lansing, struggled to manage 1,500–2,000 volunteers a year using website backends and vulnerable spreadsheets, which created hundreds of scheduling emails, manual data entry, and at least 15+ hours a week of admin work. To fix this, Haven House implemented Better Impact’s volunteer management software (Volunteer Impact) in February 2019 to replace spreadsheets and automate onboarding, scheduling and volunteer communications.
Better Impact delivered a cloud-based VMS with applications, volunteer calendars, email templates, a mobile app for clocking in/out, and eLearning modules, eliminating manual entry and most scheduling emails. The switch saved an estimated 4,212 staff hours per year (valued at $129,600) and produced a calculated ROI of 43,100%, while reported satisfaction, efficiency and effectiveness scores rose from single digits to top ratings and reporting and hours verification became instantaneous.
