A Bentley Case Study
WSP Parsons Brinckerhoff (WSP) was retained to manage the structural modeling and design of 22 Bishopsgate, a 62‑story “vertical village” in London. The team had to build a much larger superstructure on the unfinished Pinnacle “stump,” marrying a new footprint to existing foundations and three basement levels amid tight budget and schedule constraints, complex inclined-column and load-transfer issues, and demanding regulatory and sustainability targets. To tackle this, WSP used Bentley products (RAM®, RAM Concept, RAM Structural System, and Integrated Structural Modeler) integrated with Revit and Fabsec.
Using Bentley’s interoperable RAM tools, WSP modeled and optimized raft and pile-cap adaptations, inclined-column solutions, and horizontal transfer systems to preserve and adapt the existing substructure. The approach enabled WSP to reuse 100% of the Pinnacle foundation and salvage 50% of the basement, reduce engineering and modeling time from 70 to 43 weeks (nearly 40% faster), produce a structure 15% lighter with 30% more floor area, and realize cost savings including lower fire‑protection assessment costs.
