A Bentley Case Study
Sterlite Power Transmission Limited was tasked with delivering the NER‑II project — 448 km of transmission lines and a 400/132 kV substation in Tripura to bring reliable power to 30 million people — but faced mountainous, flood-prone terrain, dense forest, tight timelines, local resistance, and limitations of conventional 2D design methods. To overcome these challenges they turned to Bentley and its digital twin solutions (including OpenUtilities Substation, ProjectWise, and SYNCHRO 4D) to pursue right‑first‑time design and faster stakeholder approvals.
Bentley implemented a connected data environment with 3D collaborative modeling, a digital component library, drone-derived reality models, and 4D BIM for real‑time construction simulation and planning. The approach enabled early clash detection and seamless information flow, saving nearly INR 2.3 million from reduced rework and INR 1.1 million in resource hours, delivering the project more than a month early and achieving a 15% ROI, while improving traceability, approvals, and overall project efficiency.
