SMRT Trains Improves Rail Reliability across 282 Kilometers of Track

SMRT Trains, Singapore’s first rail operator, manages and maintains over 282 kilometers of track and needed a way to prevent service delays and meet a target of 1 million mean kilometers between failure (MKBF). Facing tens of millions of annual data points across separate silos and time-consuming manual planning, SMRT sought a centralized, automated system—and partnered with Bentley, using AssetWise Linear Analytics as the foundation for their predictive decision support system (PDSS).

Bentley’s AssetWise-based PDSS centralized four years of asset, inspection, and operating data in the cloud, automated daily imports and analysis, and produced a daily prioritization table and multi-dataset visualizations for engineers. As a result, SMRT achieved 1 million MKBF across all lines (August 2019), doubled the speed of data correlation versus manual methods, cut hundreds of manual planning hours, and saved about 20 maintenance train deployments annually—demonstrating tangible reliability and efficiency gains from Bentley’s solution.
