A Bentley Case Study
Shanghai Water Engineering Design and Research Institute Co., Ltd. (SIDRI) was contracted to design a 300‑megawatt offshore wind farm in the Bohai Sea (72 turbines, 220 kV booster station) but faced complex, irregular seabed conditions and seasonal ice floes that threatened tower foundations, all under a tight budget and schedule. To meet these challenges they partnered with Bentley and adopted Bentley’s digital design tools to move from error-prone 2D workflows to a coordinated 3D approach.
Using Bentley applications (ProjectWise, OpenWindPower/SACS, MicroStation, Navigator, OpenBuildings Designer, ProSteel, OpenPlant, and others), SIDRI created a connected data environment, developed industry‑first anti‑ice cones, and built federated iTwin models for clash detection and simulation. Bentley’s tools helped reduce fatigue loads by more than 30% and cut support‑structure design cost by over 10%; the team resolved 80+ clashes saving about 570 resource days and CNY 3 million, automated steel joint design and algorithmic studies that saved an additional 500 resource days and CNY 2.5 million, finished design three months early, and achieved total design savings of roughly CNY 50 million — with Bentley enabling repeatable CNY 5 million savings on future projects.
