A Bentley Case Study
Precision Valley Communications (PVC), a communications network mapping and engineering firm, was five months into a major HFC survey and redesign for a Washington, D.C. cable operator and was severely behind schedule due to an inefficient, client-mandated design tool. The complex scope—586 miles of conduit, 2,400 manholes, and ~225,000 multiple-dwelling units including high-security sites—combined with workflow bottlenecks threatened project funding and permit deadlines; PVC determined the issue was the software and sought a Bentley solution (Bentley Coax and Bentley Fiber).
PVC switched to Bentley’s HFC solution (Bentley Coax and Bentley Fiber) leveraging MicroStation-based CAD and optimized Oracle Spatial integration, which enabled rapid layout, near real-time engineering verification, and fewer errors. After the change, the same drafting resources posted roughly 400 miles in seven weeks versus 122 miles in five months, achieving about a tenfold productivity increase, an 80% reduction in required labor (saving ~20 months/18,000 man-hours) and over USD 1 million in design, drafting, and permitting costs—helping PVC meet milestones, secure funding, and accelerate broadband delivery.
