POWERCHINA Huadong Develops Digital Twin Solution for Shaoxing Urban Rail Line 1

Huadong Engineering Corporation Limited was tasked with digitally engineering Shaoxing Urban Rail Transit Line 1 — a CNY 24 billion, 34.1 km backbone subway project with 24 stations that crosses dense urban fabric, complex hydrogeology, and numerous technical and stakeholder interfaces. To manage more than 20 data sources and 260+ engineering risks and to accelerate design, construction, and handover, Huadong turned to Bentley’s open applications and iTwin technology (including ProjectWise, ContextCapture, MicroStation, OpenRoads, and OpenBuildings) to create a unified construction management platform and digital twin.

Using Bentley’s iTwin platform and integrated modeling tools, Huadong built a cloud-based engineering data center and collaborative construction management system that merged reality capture, BIM, IoT, and multisource models. Bentley’s solution shortened the design cycle by 20% and saved CNY 12 million, cut over 800 hours of field survey time (saving >CNY 3 million), resolved 100+ potential issues in real time, and reduced construction costs by about 5%, while doubling cross-discipline design productivity and quadrupling design review efficiency.
