A Bentley Case Study
Pestech International Berhad, a substation and transmission-line EPC contractor, was awarded an RM 79.5 million contract by Tenaga Nasional Berhad to expand the Olak Lempit substation in Banting. Constrained by tight timelines, site access issues, coordination with another main contractor, and the limitations of traditional CAD-centric workflows, Pestech turned to Bentley to implement a 3D modeling and reality-capture approach.
Bentley deployed a suite of solutions—centered on Bentley Substation and including OpenBuildings Designer, Bentley Raceway and Cable Management, ContextCapture, Navigator, Promis.e, and ProjectWise—to create a to-scale 3D reality mesh, intelligent equipment libraries, and an interoperable iModel for clash detection and automated reporting. The Bentley-based workflow cut design time by 50% (construction drawings took 1 day vs. 10), reduced cable waste by 10–20%, improved collaboration and approvals, and saved an estimated MYR 200,000.
