MRT Jakarta Develops Sustainable Transport to Reduce Congestion and Carbon Emissions in Jakarta

PT MRT Jakarta, the agency responsible for construction, operations, and maintenance of Jakarta’s new mass rapid transit system, faced severe traffic congestion and carbon-emission challenges while expanding Phase II in a dense urban, heritage-sensitive environment. The project’s complexity—multiple contractors, dispersed asset data, and pandemic-related acceleration—created information silos and inefficient review processes, so PT MRT Jakarta engaged Bentley (using ProjectWise, AssetWise, the Bentley iTwin platform, and SYNCHRO) to establish a connected data environment and streamline workflows.

Bentley implemented an integrated digital solution—ProjectWise, AssetWise, iTwin design review and SYNCHRO 4D—to digitalize deliverables, enable virtual 3D reviews, automate approvals, and build a progressive asset register. The connected environment reduced time spent finding current data (saving about 10% in working time), cut hardcopy submissions by 90%, maintained contractor review/approval within the 30-day contractual window during COVID-19, minimized rework, and produced 3D as-built data to optimize long-term operations and maintenance.
