A Bentley Case Study
Mott MacDonald was the lead designer on the £4 billion Thames Tideway East project to modernize London’s Victorian sewer network, delivering about 10 km of tunnel and six shafts beneath central London. Facing dispersed teams across Europe, 12 design disciplines using different software, massive data volumes, and a client-driven push to finish early, Mott MacDonald needed tighter information control, faster workflows, and clearer collaboration—so they adopted Bentley’s ProjectWise CONNECT Edition as their connected data environment.
Bentley’s ProjectWise centralized models, drawings, reports, and workflows, automated transmittals and approvals, and enabled weekly “BIM Wednesday” reviews with broad stakeholder participation. The result was measurable: 32% faster design production, documents delivered 80% faster, design time cut by 22.5 hours per week (about six months saved), GBP 20,000 in reported savings so far, 76% of packages accepted first time, and client approvals in under five days—reducing rework, cost, and travel while improving assurance and delivery speed.
