Mortenson Uses 4D Construction Modeling to Build USD 1.4 Billion Sports Destination

Clark Construction Group, working as part of the Mortenson | Clark joint venture, faced the challenge of delivering the USD 1.4 billion Chase Center complex on an aggressive deadline for the 2019–2020 NBA season. The project combined an 18,000‑seat arena, office buildings, retail, plazas and a 925‑space below‑grade garage on difficult “bay mud” ground next to active construction and a medical helipad, requiring highly coordinated, simultaneous work across four arena cores. To manage this complexity the team used Bentley’s SYNCHRO 4D construction modeling for visualization and scheduling.

Bentley’s SYNCHRO enabled 4D visualization and automation that broke the schedule into 1,674 critical activities and 151,635 resource elements, visualized over 36,900 tasks and 92,800 relationships, and supported simultaneous construction of the four cores. Using automated scripts and SYNCHRO, the team identified 468 sequence issues, saved an estimated 720 resource hours, improved crane and trade coordination, sped data imports from hours to minutes, and kept stakeholders aligned—helping deliver the complex on schedule (completed in 31 months) and in time for preseason events.
