A Bentley Case Study
MCC Capital Engineering & Research Incorporation Ltd. needed to turn surplus blast-furnace gas into compact, efficient on-site power while integrating the new equipment into an operating steel plant. The project required multidisciplinary coordination across equipment, heat power, gas and ventilation, electrical engineering, and water treatment, and raised technical challenges such as load-flow control, preventing reverse transmission, clash detection in a tight footprint, and minimizing disruption to ongoing operations. To meet these challenges they partnered with Bentley and used Bentley applications for digital design and project collaboration.
Using Bentley’s suite (including ProjectWise, AssetWise, SYNCHRO 4D and Bentley modelling tools), the team created reality meshes, a federated digital model, an engineering data center, and 4D construction simulations to eliminate clashes, optimize layout, and coordinate construction. The Bentley-enabled solution delivered the world’s first 60 MW ultra‑high‑pressure subcritical blast-furnace gas generator, boosting generation efficiency by 60%, producing 0.45 billion kWh (enough for about 1 million people), saving CNY 230 million in annual energy costs, lowering steel production costs by CNY 70/ton, and cutting blast-furnace emissions by 1.4 billion normal cubic meters annually.
