Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Mandates BIM Level 2 Methodology to Deliver Kuala Lumpur’s Metro Project

Mass Rapid Transit Corporation (MRT Corp) was delivering the 52.2 km, 35‑station KVMRT SSP metro line in Kuala Lumpur and faced massive coordination, data-management, and design‑clash challenges across 20+ disciplines. To reduce on‑site changes and boost productivity, MRT Corp mandated a BIM Level 2 workflow and selected Bentley’s OpenRail Connected Data Environment (including ProjectWise, AssetWise, ContextCapture, and MicroStation) to establish a single, controlled collaboration platform.

Bentley implemented a cloud‑hosted federated CDE that enabled 1,500+ users to collaborate on about 7,500 models and 280,000+ documents (2.3 TB), using reality modeling, federated visualization, and CMMS integration to validate designs and monitor construction. The Bentley solution significantly reduced design clashes and rework, increased productivity by 35%, supported 4D/5D planning and accurate quantity takeoffs, and improved asset handover and lifecycle management.
