JPW Leverages Computational Design to Deliver Australia’s Largest Sustainable Commercial Tower

Johnson Pilton Walker (JPW) led the design for 6 & 8 Parramatta Square, including 8 Parramatta Square — a 55‑storey, 243‑meter commercial tower — facing a constrained site adjacent to a major railway, flood risk, strict heritage and sustainability requirements, and an expedited timeline. To manage the complex geometry and coordination challenges, JPW adopted Bentley’s OpenBuildings Designer with its built‑in GenerativeComponents and a connected digital‑twin workflow.

Using Bentley’s OpenBuildings Designer and GenerativeComponents, JPW developed parametric scripts and Excel‑driven workflows to automate modeling and coordination — generating more than 1,400 tower columns, 8,000 façade panels, and 179,000 ceiling tiles. The solution cut façade modeling from two weeks to under one hour, reduced column checking from one week to one hour, and delivered significant time and cost savings while improving multidisciplinary coordination and meeting the project’s sustainability and documentation goals.
