A Bentley Case Study
DPR Construction was hired to deliver a USD 32 million upgrade to a biopharmaceutical plant in Durham, North Carolina, aimed at tripling production of an investigative Alzheimer’s drug. The work required a three-month shutdown, installation of over 7,000 linear feet of stainless-steel piping, major equipment swaps in a confined footprint, and resolution of buried, hard-to-locate assets — challenges that made traditional manual tracking and scheduling inadequate. DPR turned to Bentley’s SYNCHRO 4D for digital asset tracking and virtual construction planning.
Using Bentley’s SYNCHRO 4D to integrate 3D models and point clouds, DPR established model-based production tracking, automated scripting, and real-time progress dashboards to coordinate crews, labor, materials, and milestones. The solution enabled DPR to complete the 14-week project six days early amid COVID-19, helped the client meet commissioning timelines to run simultaneous filtration cycles (tripling capacity), and saved roughly two weeks of manual work by automating assignment of 27,000 model elements to 950 resources.
