Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Finalized Alignment Design for Phase IV Expansion Project

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation faced the challenge of finalizing the alignment design for its Phase IV 104‑km metro expansion between Majlis Park and RK Ashram in a densely populated, congested area with limited land availability and sensitive heritage sites. To meet tight clearance, station and tunnel constraints while minimizing property acquisition and protecting monuments, the organization engaged Bentley and used Bentley’s OpenRail Designer for the alignment work.

Bentley’s OpenRail Designer, integrated with Google Maps, gave the project team 3D visualization and quick-edit capabilities to shift and lengthen stations and tunnels, rotate tracks, and optimize alignments to avoid built-up areas. Using Bentley’s solution the team completed the 3D alignment design in under three months, reduced resource hours and project costs, minimized property acquisition, and maintained safe offsets from protected monuments—delivering a faster, more accurate design process.
