A Bentley Case Study
Tideway’s GBP 4 billion Thames Tideway Tunnel “super‑sewer” project required tightly coordinated works across 24 sites to upgrade London’s Victorian sewer system. Faced with deep shafts, constrained sites and many stakeholders, Tideway and its east‑section contractor CVB JV needed better construction planning and collaboration, so they turned to Bentley’s integrated digital tools, notably SYNCHRO 4D (with ProjectWise and OpenBuildings Designer) to improve scheduling, constructability and on‑site decision making.
Bentley delivered a connected data environment and 4D construction modeling workflow that let CVB JV build 30+ 4D models, run collaborative planning sessions and test construction scenarios. The approach cut the program by over 90 days across two years (reporting ~£300,000 direct and >£1M indirect savings), compressed some phases by 50%, avoided a potential 30‑day delay with the Port of London Authority, reduced risk‑reporting time by 20% and document size by 30%, and is expected to halve manual work at each site as SYNCHRO 4D is rolled out.
