Citic Heavy Industries Uses Collaborative BIM Technology to Deliver Green, Smart Cement Factory

Citic Heavy Industries was contracted to design, procure, construct, and deliver a USD 135.96 million, 4,500-ton-per-day green, smart cement factory in Fujian, China and faced complex multidisciplinary coordination, equipment design, and operations-integration challenges. To move beyond conventional methods and enable intelligent plant management, Citic required a cloud-based collaborative BIM platform and integrated applications — engaging Bentley and its tools (OpenBuildings, OpenPlant, ProjectWise, and iTwin® Services) to support 3D parametric equipment design and a connected data environment.

Bentley implemented a collaborative 3D BIM and digital twin solution—using OpenBuildings and OpenPlant for modeling, ProjectWise for collaboration, and iTwin Services for digital twin and online equipment monitoring—enabling design-construction synchronization and predictive maintenance. The Bentley-powered approach cut design changes by 80%, shaved one month off design time, eliminated construction collisions, saved three months and USD 3 million in project costs, reduced equipment maintenance costs by USD 2 million, lowered O&M costs by over 30%, and is expected to save Fujian Ansha about USD 1.24 million annually while reducing electricity use by 3.5 million kWh.
