China Railway Sets Benchmark for Full-lifecycle BIM on Beijing-Zhangjiakou Rail Project

China Railway Engineering Consulting Group Co., Ltd. led the design and construction consulting for the Beijing–Zhangjiakou high-speed railway—a 174 km, CNY 53.5 billion project with 23 engineering disciplines and severe site constraints (deep stations, long tunnels, sensitive cultural areas). Facing complex, multidisciplinary coordination challenges and a mandate to establish full-lifecycle BIM, the company selected Bentley (using ProjectWise and Bentley’s MicroStation, OpenBuildings Designer, and OpenRoads applications) to provide an integrated digital design platform.

Bentley implemented a Connected Data Environment and integrated BIM workflows to enable real-time, multidiscipline 3D collaboration, standardized component libraries, automation, and collision detection. The Bentley solution accelerated modeling, cut geological modeling time by six months, shortened overall design time by three months, reduced rework and environmental impact, and delivered measurable savings of CNY 3 million.
