Chaoyang Underground Pumping Station Will Improve Water Supply to 1.5 Million Residents

Liaoning Water Conservancy and Hydropower Survey and Design Research Institute led the design of the CNY 82 million Chaoyang underground pumping station to improve water supply for 1.5 million residents, but faced a narrow site, complex geology, deeply buried caverns, densely routed pipelines, and the need to coordinate 13 disciplines on a tight schedule. To overcome limits of 2D workflows, they engaged Bentley and sought its collaborative 3D digital solutions (including ProjectWise and MicroStation) to support integrated BIM and reality modeling.

Bentley delivered a connected data environment using ProjectWise and MicroStation together with ContextCapture, OpenRoads, OpenBuildings Designer, LumenRT, and related applications for reality modeling, clash detection, visualization, and mixed‑reality simulation. The Bentley solution improved multidisciplinary coordination, cut the design cycle by 20 days (from 70 to 50), increased design efficiency by 40%, reduced design errors by 95%, and saved CNY 10 million, while enabling digital deliverables that extend into construction and operations.
