Capital of Bulgaria Optimizes Street Lighting Infrastructure with OpenUtilities

Sofia Municipality faced an incomplete and unreliable inventory of its street lighting across the capital region, hindering maintenance, planning, and budget decisions for the Transport Infrastructure Department. To address this, Sofia Municipality retained DAVID Holding to implement a GIS solution built on Bentley’s OpenUtilities to create a comprehensive, standardized asset inventory and streamline workflows.

DAVID Holding customized Bentley OpenUtilities (using .NET and VBA APIs and the pre-configured electric data model) to map, import, and manage street-lighting condition data, enabling faster field-data processing, reduced database population time, and fewer data-entry errors. The Bentley-based solution lowered operational expenditures, cut deployment and design time, improved repair prioritization and customer service, and supported LED upgrades to reduce environmental impact.
