AHCEC Developed Reality Model of Second-holiest City in Islam

Ala Abdulhadi & Khalifa Hawas Consulting Engineering Company (AHCEC) was commissioned by the Madinah Development Authority to design infrastructure and expand access in Al‑Madinah as Saudi Arabia plans to grow annual pilgrim capacity from 8 million to 30 million by 2030. Facing a shortened schedule and the need to model a 55‑km² historic area plus a 700‑km road network, AHCEC turned to Bentley and its ContextCapture and Orbit solutions for interoperable reality modeling and 3D mobile mapping.

Using Bentley’s ContextCapture and Orbit, AHCEC combined UAV photogrammetry, LiDAR, and mobile mapping to process ~750,000 images, model 41,672 buildings, and survey more than 7,000 km of roads, completing the objective in nine months — over a year ahead of schedule — and saving more than SAR 42 million. Bentley’s tools enabled high‑detail reality meshes for planning and stakeholder approvals, supported thousands of UAV flights and control points, and established a foundation for future digital‑twin work with iTwin, AssetWise, and ProjectWise.
