Transparency Fosters a Wellness-Oriented Culture

Rush University Medical Center, a not-for-profit health care, education and research system in Chicago with more than 9,000 employees, struggled to support a wellness-oriented culture because its benefits enrollment and administration were primarily paper-based. That created a lack of visibility into plan selections and costs, consumed staff time with manual data entry, and left employees without on-demand access to prior elections or decision support.

Rush implemented Benefitfocus Benefitplace (with Health Insights, the Benefit Catalog and a Benefits Service Center) to give employees instant, year-round access to benefits, educational content, mobile tools and personalized cost estimates. Integrated dashboards combining claims, eligibility and prescription data improved transparency into health care spending, enabled better plan comparisons, boosted wellness program promotion and participation, reduced administrative burden and helped the organization make more informed benefits decisions.
