PotlatchDeltic, a leading U.S. timberland owner and lumber manufacturer with over 1,000 employees across six states, introduced a high-deductible health plan (HDHP) with an HSA option to improve health outcomes and reduce costs. The company wanted employees to feel informed—not pressured—about the new option, so it needed better education and decision support to help the workforce understand the plan’s value.
Working with Benefitfocus, PotlatchDeltic added personalized decision tools by integrating employees’ claims data into a Cost Estimator, redesigned its Benefitplace site with clear resources, and implemented supplemental coverages and higher employer HSA contributions. The changes increased HDHP participation from 20% to 40% during 2020 open enrollment (a 100% increase), improved employee understanding, and lowered costs for both the company and its employees.
