MacroGenics digitalizes R&D to accelerate breakthrough cancer treatments

MacroGenics, a biopharmaceutical company focused on monoclonal antibody-based cancer therapeutics, needed to modernize its R&D operations to improve efficiency and shorten time to milestone as its research and development teams expanded into clinical and commercial work. The company selected Benchling to help digitalize Research and BioPharmaceutical Development (BPD) on a shared platform, replacing paper-based and fragmented systems with better data capture, collaboration, and workflow coordination.

Benchling implemented an enterprise-wide digital notebook, structured data model, sample and inventory management, and cross-team workflow tools tailored to MacroGenics’ research and process development needs. As a result, MacroGenics improved collaboration, organized data more effectively, and sped up analytical data review; one scientist reportedly saved about 30 minutes per day by eliminating printouts, and adoption was high from the first month. Benchling also helped teams standardize sample handoffs and prepare data more easily for regulatory filings and future AI use.
