How Dave Gerhardt Went From Podcast Side Hustler to VP of Marketing at Drift

Drift, a Boston-based conversational marketing platform, needed a way to help its marketing leader, Dave Gerhardt, build credibility and relationships in the local tech community while he was still early in his career. At the time, he launched a side project podcast, Tech in Boston, with little experience and limited traction, and he also needed support to keep the project sustainable.

Bench’s role in the story was as the bookkeeping partner for entrepreneurs like Gerhardt, helping free up time and reduce the financial guesswork of running a growing side project or business. The podcast eventually gained about 5,000 subscribers, was downloaded roughly 100,000 times, and helped Gerhardt land opportunities at HubSpot and later Drift, where he became VP of Marketing.
