Developing a safety-critical and regulation required system for a construction equipment OEM

Global Mining and Construction Equipment OEM partnered with Belcan to address safety concerns on large mining trucks, where limited cab visibility made it difficult to detect smaller objects nearby. The client also needed to speed up delivery of an enhanced safety feature to meet country-specific regulatory requirements.

Belcan developed a clean-sheet safety system using a multi-industry technology evaluation, then designed and delivered the hardware, software, wire harness, packaging, and sensor mounting. After lab build and testing, Belcan validated the system on a machine and created retrofit kits for field installation, sending technicians to mine sites to install and test the solution. The result was a safety-critical, regulation-required feature introduced outside the OEM’s normal development cycle, helping the end customer meet safety requirements without buying a third-party system.
