Stena Line’s journey from traditional to dynamic planning

Stena Line, the Gothenburg-based ferry company, needed to move away from a traditional Excel-driven budgeting process that was too static and heavily finance-dependent. After the pandemic exposed the limits of its existing approach, the company looked for a more flexible, agile, transparent, and user-friendly planning solution. Bedford Consulting helped Stena Line adopt Anaplan for connected planning across its business units.

Bedford Consulting implemented Anaplan for budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and long-term strategic planning, later expanding it to cover the full financial planning horizon from 5–10 years to weekly operational decisions. The new model connected travel, freight, onboard services, sustainability, and scenario planning, giving Stena Line greater visibility, faster reporting, better collaboration, and more responsive decision-making. While no hard numeric ROI was given, Bedford Consulting helped Stena Line save significant time, improve transparency, and react more quickly to business changes.
