Prato S. Stefano Hospital, a major hospital in Tuscany, faced the challenge of managing a high volume of laboratory tests with its aging automation system. The hospital's lab processes an average of 4,000 tubes daily and needed to improve efficiency, reduce turnaround times (TAT), and enhance operator safety. Beckman Coulter's Power Express solution automated the workflow from sample check-in to storage. The implementation resulted in a significant performance improvement, processing 44.6% more samples and 31.3% more tests than the previous system. Most importantly, Beckman Coulter's new system dramatically reduced median turnaround times by 31.8% for overall tests, 16.7% for STAT profiles, and 19.5% for Troponin, all while handling a increased workload without sacrificing speed for urgent tests.
