A Beckman Coulter Case Study
Broadlawns Medical Center, a 200-bed nonprofit healthcare organization, faced significant challenges with the labor-intensive and time-consuming process of manual urine microscopy. Their traditional method was costly, prone to subjectivity, and resulted in 66.5% of samples requiring a manual review, which delayed turnaround times and strained resources. To address these issues, they turned to Beckman Coulter for an automated solution.
Beckman Coulter implemented its iQ Workcell, which pairs the iQ200 ELITE automated microscopy system with a chemistry analyzer. This solution standardized the testing process and used smart gating rules to drastically reduce the need for manual intervention. The results were substantial: manual review rates plummeted from 66.5% to just 4%, turnaround time per test dropped from 14 minutes to 5 minutes, and the laboratory achieved annual labor savings of 1,996 hours, amounting to $47,504.
