Case Study: HeidelbergCement boosts global data availability with Bechtle and NetApp

A Bechtle Case Study

Preview of the HeidelbergCement Case Study

A secure foundation for all HeidelbergCement locations worldwide

HeidelbergCement, one of the world’s largest building materials companies, needed a scalable, centrally managed storage and backup environment to support its global operations across more than 3,000 locations. Working with Bechtle, the company set out to replace an older backup approach with a more efficient, future-ready system based on NetApp technology.

Bechtle implemented multiple NetApp ONTAP clusters with FAS8060 controllers and premium software in HeidelbergCement’s core data centre, linking sites in Germany, the UK, Texas and Asia into a single storage environment. The solution added high availability, snapshot-based backups with SnapVault, replication with SnapMirror, and thin provisioning, improving RTO from 72 hours to 4 hours, cutting backup intervals from four hours to 30 minutes, and increasing available storage capacity by up to 80%.
