Zoobean and the Hawaii Department of Education Access for Every Child

The Hawaii Department of Education sought to launch a statewide reading challenge for its diverse student population spread across eight islands, creating unique accessibility and connectivity challenges. To overcome this, they partnered with vendor Zoobean to implement a reading challenge using the Beanstack app, aiming to nurture a love of reading and ensure every student could participate.

Zoobean's solution was to create the #808Reads challenge with a universal login using student ID numbers, removing the need for school administrator involvement and ensuring equity. The culturally-themed program successfully boosted engagement, increasing the number of users by 133% in five months. Students logged over 1 million reading minutes in a single month, putting the statewide goal of 8 million minutes within reach.
