PowerUp, a provider of registration payments software for soccer teams, faced significant challenges with its rigid Azure VM infrastructure. The platform, operated by Beacon Software, could not autoscale to handle traffic surges, leading to user queues, downtime during peak seasons, and disproportionately high operational costs. These technical limitations also created major bottlenecks that slowed development cycles and drained engineering resources.

To address this, Beacon Software modernized PowerUp's entire stack. They containerized the application and migrated it to Azure’s autoscaling App Service and Azure SQL, while also upgrading the PHP runtime. Beacon implemented modern tooling like GitHub, Grafana, and PagerDuty, and used DeepWiki to optimize the codebase. The results were transformative, delivering six-figure annual savings and a 100x improvement in scalability with zero downtime. The engineering team now ships weekly releases and has reclaimed five hours per week for product development.
