Appleby Westward slashes picking errors with BCP’s Voice WMS

Appleby Westward Group Limited (AWG), a SPAR wholesaler serving the South and West of England, was struggling with picking errors caused by manual pick-by-label processes despite using RF scanning for other warehouse tasks. AWG wanted to improve order accuracy, reduce costly delivery mistakes, and provide better customer service, so it turned to BCP Software and its Accord Voice warehouse management technology.

BCP Software implemented Accord Voice Directed Picking at AWG’s Saltash distribution centre in phases, using Voice terminals and a wireless RF network, with the system later extended to other warehouse areas and directed replenishment. The results were strong: picking errors fell by 97.3%, saving over £100,000 per year, service levels rose to 98.33%, and productivity improved by around 5 packs per hour in ambient picking.
