The state agency tasked with strengthening its bio sciences workforce was struggling to help learners grasp the complex scientific concept of lyophilization. Faculty found that verbal explanations and existing videos were insufficient, as they failed to effectively show the dynamic relationship between macro-level production and micro-level biochemical processes. They partnered with vendor BCL to create a more effective instructional resource.

BCL developed a dynamic animation that provided a holistic visualization of the lyophilization process. This solution used generic equipment to ensure broad applicability and uniquely visualized the critical chemical transformations occurring during freeze-drying, which was not possible with video. The animation is now successfully used by the agency's faculty in classrooms, on their website and YouTube channel, and within a series of published eLearning modules.
