Siemens collects €25,000 in 3 months with BCD Travel

Siemens, a global technology company, needed to improve the sustainability of its business travel program. The challenge was to provide travelers with emissions guidance, display carbon calculations in its online booking tool, and collect dynamic carbon fees to fund broader decarbonization initiatives. To address this, Siemens partnered with vendor BCD Travel and the climate-tech company SQUAKE.

BCD Travel, in partnership with SQUAKE, developed an overlay for Siemens’ online booking tool that displayed flight emissions using DEFRA methodology and added a corresponding carbon fee to each fare. This solution automated the collection of these fees during booking. The results included significantly increased employee engagement and visibility into carbon footprints. Most notably, Siemens collected €25,000 in carbon fees within just three months in its Swiss market, which is being reinvested into sustainable aviation fuel programs.
