Sun & Ski Sports, a Retail Concepts–owned ski and winter apparel retailer operating 25 U.S. stores, faced low e-commerce conversion rates on its two-year-old site because many visitors arrived without a clear purchase intent. The company needed a way to guide browsing shoppers to relevant products and lift online sales.
In 2008 Sun & Ski implemented Baynote’s personalization platform—using anonymous aggregation of search and browsing behavior, product recommendations, adaptive emails, targeted landing pages and social integration—to surface relevant products and drive lifecycle marketing. Within a year the recommendation features drove substantially higher engagement and sales: shoppers who clicked recommendations saw a 57% lift in conversions, purchasers via recommendations saw a 79% higher conversion rate and a 25% increase in net revenue versus non-recommended buyers, while holiday online sales rose 32% year-over-year.
