SUEZ Netherlands, a leading sustainable waste-management company, faced the challenge of replacing a legacy, paper-heavy invoicing landscape inherited through acquisitions. Receiving roughly 600 invoices a day (about 10,000 a month) across disparate administrations made accurate reporting, timely payments and process control difficult, and supplier adoption of true e‑invoicing remained low.
SUEZ established a Shared Service Center and implemented Basware Invoice, Match and the Basware Network to automate invoice workflows, receive e‑invoices through multiple channels and send electronic invoices themselves. The move cut AP headcount from ~30 to 5 (about a 70% personnel cost saving), enabled the company to send approximately two million e‑invoices annually, improved reporting and control, and set a target of 100% e‑invoicing (from 30% direct-to-digital incoming today).
