The Danish Agency for Governmental Management, part of the Ministry of Finance responsible for improving public-sector administration across 155 ministries/agencies and ~250 institutions, faced a major challenge: 405 disparate, largely manual travel and expense processes that wasted time and hindered transparency. The agency set out to standardize and digitize these workflows to free up administrative resources and improve service quality.

Using Basware’s Travel & Expense Management, the agency rolled out a web-based, standardized solution with tailored workshops and multi-level training to more than 60,000 users across 500+ clients in under 23 months. Automation and best practices halved required processing staff (from 43 to 21 people‑years), delivered estimated annual savings of DKK 16 million (~€2.5M), improved documentation and user satisfaction, and earned Denmark’s national Digitization Prize.
